About Us

The “First Launch” of the Rocket City Invitational Tournament (RCIT) will be in August of 2025. Our tournament will take place on Redstone Arsenal, a Federal Research and Development Center, home to the Department of Defense, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Department of Justice, NASA and the Marshall Space Flight Center. The bowling center hosts 32 new state of the art bowling lanes, new AMF featured equipment, and Xli pinsetters. The lanes also feature a snack bar, pro shop and sports bar.  Our tournament is named for the city we represent Huntsville, AL, also known as the Rocket City, which has cemented its reputation as the hub of aerospace and rocketry through the city’s contributions and impact on space exploration.

Rocket City Invitational Tournament is affiliated with the Rocket City G-BLASTers (Gay, Bisexual, Lesbian, A-Sexual, Straight and Trans) an all inclusive bowling league and member of the International Gay Bowling Organization (IGBO).  IGBO is an international gay bowling organization reflecting the ideals of Unity, Fellowship, and Communication.  They provide educational services, communication avenues, and social opportunities to promote the sport of bowling and to enrich the lives of individuals through leagues and tournaments worldwide.  Learn more about IGBO and member tournaments at www.igbo.org.

Originally part of the Red Ribbon Bowling Association (RRBA), which was Huntsville’s very first LGBT bowling league and voted into membership into the International Gay Bowling Organization (IGBO) back in 2000.  Subsequently the Huntsville Invitational Classic or HIC Bowl hosted their first tournament in 2001, and affectionally was known for their “outhouse” trophy given to the last place individuals and team. In 2019 the league members of RRBA voted to change the league to the current name, but decided to keep Red Ribbon Bowling Association as the umbrella for future bowling leagues, tournaments and other LGBT ventures to promote inclusivity among all people.

Rocket City Invitational Tournament is a member of the United States Bowling Congress (USBC).  All rules apply and our tournament is open to all eligible bowlers, regardless of sexual orientation, and features a handicap scoring process.
